National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur

The NIT Raipur was founded in 1956 as Government College of Mining & Metallurgy with two engineering disciplines, mining and metallurgy. Later in 1958-59 with the addition of civil, mechanical and electrical engineering courses, the college came to be known as Government College of Engineering and Technology. NIT Raipur is one of the oldest technical institutes in the country. Currently it is one of the National Institutes of Technology, which have been accorded Institute of National Importance status by the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007. Starting with two branches in 1956 the institute is now surrounded with major industries like the Bhilai Steel Plant, SECL, BALCO and NTPC, Korba.

NIT  Raipur presently offers 12 undergraduate and 6 Postgraduate courses including M.C.A and M.Tech. in Applied Geology. It also offers opportunities for Ph.D. and also under takes R & D activities  and provides testing, consultancy and other extension services including continuing education to the industry through the Industry Institute Interaction cell and the placement of the student through the Department of Training & Placement. 

NIT Raipur is known for its contribution in the technological, industrial and economical development of the region and the country for last five decades and dissemination of useful and relevant technologies in the service of the society.

The undergraduate admissions are based on the Joint Entrance Examination organized by National Testing Agency. The postgraduate admissions are based on the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). The postgraduate admissions for Master in Computer Application are done on the basis of NIMCET.
